Forest School

Intent and Ethos of Forest School Education

“Take a good look at God’s wonders – they will take your breath away”. (Psalm 66.5)

The outdoor environment provides opportunities everyday for us to become aware of, and care for,  God’s creation. Our forest school is an opportunity for all children in the school to develop, learn and enjoy themselves. It provides a safe, non-threatening environment in which they can take risks, make choices and initiate their own learning.  The ethos of forest school is to allow the children the time and space to further develop their skills, through a range of practical, hands-on experiences in a natural environment.

Through a combination of planned and child led activities they have the opportunity to use natural resources for inspiration and to develop an understanding of our world. Forest school aims to develop the physical, social, cognitive, linguistic, emotional and spiritual aspects of the learner and for them to take these skills both back into the classroom and into their daily lives.  In addition, it supports their knowledge of the wider world and what we need to do to protect it for future generations.

Imagination in the Forest

We now have a new ‘imagination area in the forest. Last week it was a maze to tie in with some of the classes Harry Potter theme. This week with lots of classes doing the sea or beach it has become a pirate ship.  What will it be next?
